Should I Be Concerned About Devil Face Painting?

Some parents may feel confused or apprehensive when their little cherub asks to be face painted as a devil. For some of us, we start to wonder if our child has some evil propensity that will rear its ugly head once he reaches adolescence. Imagine... if all the cats in the neighbourhood go missing or the next door neighbors dogs tail mysteriously gets spray painted bright blue. The whole community is baffled and you break out in a cold sweat as you realise that the only access to the neighbors backyard is via your adjoining gate.

But fear not. Children totally understand role play and make believe. Most children love to "dress up" or be face painted so they can get "into character". Most children innately understand that this means they can go to that special place of make believe and have fun, let loose and explore some parallel world that does not really exist. Let's face it... it is fun to pretend to be something you are not.

So parents, if your bundle of joy announces he or she wants devil face painting, there is no need to rush him off to the local priest for an exorcism. It's all part of being a kid and just having some fun. If you still feel uncomfortable about it, then why not get devil face painting yourself, just to reassure yourself that you are not going to instantly grow horns and start spewing green slime from your mouth. Maybe this could open up a whole new area of your relationship with your child and share in the excitement that is "make believe". But words of caution... you may just have some fun!
